   CORRECTION: An FHA loan actually requires a credit score of at least 640 to get a down payment of only 3.5%!

   Actually the above correction isn’t correct – I am a mortgage banker and have been in the business since 1986. THe mortgage company I work for is a joint venture of Wells Fargo – and we lend to buyers with scores as low as 600 on FHA loans with only 3.5% down. Many Brokers or Correspondent Lenders cannot lend below the 640 score.
